happened essentially is that this jobs report came over and poured a big bucket of cold water on hopes of a quicker recovery. it tells you that there was a slowdown and a real standstill in hiring that happened in may and june. what we're going to be looking for, by the way, next week is the beginning of earnings season to try to see that if in the slow growth economy companies found a way to make money again. >> steve also says companies hoping to see more confidence on the part of consumers before they have the confidence to start hiring. >>> capitol hill will be buzzing today ahead of a major meeting at the white house tomorrow on the debt ceiling. top lawmakers from both sides of the aisle will sit down president obama and vice president biden hoping to get closer to cutting a deal. this morning the president said there is common ground, but it will mean unpopular decisions by both parties. >> we agree on some of the big things. we agree that after a decade of racking up deficits and debt we need to get our fiscal house in order. we agreed that to do that both sides are going to ha

depends on how big it it is then when it goes back to the house. >> is there enough time to get it together and actually pass something? >> you know, i think there is in washington time. it doesn't look like there is because of how slow things typically move, but this is very, very real, and when you're scheduling 1:00 a.m. cloture votes, they know the time is ticking. it's 85 hours and counting, and you know, they're going to have to get a deal because they see the consequences, not only economically, but politically. >> okay. as ridiculous as this may sound to some, was there ever a possibility about like a one-page document simply raising the debt ceiling and then dealing with the rest of this stuff when we don't have this, you know, deadline hanging over our heads of august 2nd? >> that's what the house republicans and sort of the tea party caucus would not go along with. remember, that was president obama's original position, raise the debt ceiling separate and then we'll deal with spending cuts later. but that is not being allowed by many in the tea party caucus because fr

hoping for a big drenching. think of texas almost like a hot pizza oven and all we did was throw a napkin in it. this storm dissipated faster than almost any storm i've seen before. it didn't even go into the mountains and dissipate, it literally evaporated as it moves over brownsville. you can see it on the satellite imagery. it was the big red blob, and as soon as it got to the dry land in texas, poof. all of a sudden, don was gone. so not good news down there. the storm system is -- what's left of it, circulation is going to head for mexico anyway so it looks like just scattered showers and storms in texas during the day today. we'll take what we can get, but this wasn't the answer we were hoping for. there's not a lot of wet weather on the map, there are showers in missouri, also showers in the northern plains. your forecast for today, rain likely more or less in mexico, not texas. hot weather for dallas once again. warm and sunny in the northeast. as we go into the sunday forecast, we should see a lot of thunderstorms in the midatlantic and monsoonal showers and storms continue aroun

. this big ridge stays in place and the dry weather is going nowhere. heading up through the lakes, off towards the east. showers and thunderstorms through virginia and the carolinas. that will bring thorps with locally heavy rainfall and spotty showers here for the southern parts of missouri and parts of mississippi early on a sunday morning. a big area of high pressure in the east should keep most of us dry and showers pushing through western new york state for the most part that were dry as we go through the afternoon. sunshine and temperatures above average in the east. we will continue to see the numbers even down near d.c. at 96. further down towards the south, this is afternoon stuff. throw heat on the atmosphere to get us wet weather. showers and showers increase, but mainly dry and sticky in the southern plains. dallas with another 100 degree day. it will continue today, but on through most of the week and out across the midwest. the front coming through with a few showers in places like chicago. >> thanks for the comprehensive report. it was a flight that began in new york and
